Links
On this page you'll find resources I've found useful. None of these resources are authored by me and any copyright which exists belongs to the website authors, but they're all freely available on the net and I see no harm in sharing the good ones I've found. You never know, some of these might save you a lot of time!
Useful Resources:
The Reverse Guitar Chord Finder
If you've found an unusual chord but you're not quite sure what it should be called, or what notes are used in it, then this could help.
Scale Generator
This is a really useful resource if you want to check out all the possible position for any scale (well, most of them!). It also tells you all the notes the scale contains, just choose your key and your scale type. The rest of the site seems pretty useful too!
Scalerator
Similar to the Fretboader, above, but also gives you a movable outline which allows you to chose what position on the fretboard you'd like to play the scale in and then produces both tab and notation of the scale position you've chosen. Jolly clever!
Also try the Chord Designer (like the Reverse Guitar Chord Finder above)
And the Chorderator if you know the name of the chord and want to find out how it could be played: more options than you'll need for most chords!
Chord/Scale/Note Printer
This is the same idea as the two links above, but it includes scales for bass guitar which are easy to print out. Bass players should investigate the whole site (see below).
Blank Fretboard Charts
These are great if you need to map out scales, arpeggios, solo positions, etc. Free to print out.
Blank sheet music/tab for any instrument(bass guitar too!)
Very useable: allows you to place bars, key signatures, time signatures on several musical formats, such as tab, treble clef, bass clef, alto clef and so on. You can also print bass tab or combinations of music and tab.
Online Metronome.
Need a steady count to practise to? here's a good free one!
The Harmonized Major Scale - Basic chord/scale theory
Check this out, it may turn out to be useful!
Useful Sites
http://www.justinguitar.com/
One of the best guitar teaching sites on the internet - and it's free. You can learn a lot here, whether you're a beginner or an advanced guitarist. A huge list of guitar songs to learn at all levels!
http://scaletrainer.com/
Despite the title, this is not just about scales. There are lessons and articles about all types of guitar playing (although there's a heavy bias towards electric guitar)
http://www.studybass.com/
A good site specially for bass players.
